For newcomers, Uma Musume Pretty Derby is part of a larger multimedia franchise encompassing anime, manga, and more. Its popularity stems largely from the successful anime series.

Originally released in Japan and Asia in February 2021 for Android and iOS, the game centers on horse girls—racehorses reincarnated as girls in an alternate universe—who strive for idol stardom while competing in the "Twinkle Series," a national sporting event.

While a global release date remains unannounced, appearances of characters like Gold Ship (Team Spica) in international titles like Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising hint at future crossovers once the English version launches.
