Conquering Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide
The game frequently warns against engaging Lu Bu, but defeating him offers significant rewards. This guide details how to overcome this formidable opponent.
Should You Fight Lu Bu?
While challenging, defeating Lu Bu provides bragging rights, is sometimes unavoidable (Shu/Wei alliance in Chapter 4), and rewards you with the "The Strongest" trophy and the game's ultimate weapon (halberd) in the post-game.
Phase 1: Mounted Lu Bu
Prepare for battle with a multi-hit weapon capable of staggering Lu Bu, and Battle Arts with low Bravery requirements, quick activation, and wide range (e.g., Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, Flying Dragon Slash). Essential accessories include those boosting health and defense (Divine Bird’s Wing, Divine Turtle’s Shell). A weapon with a Bravery-granting Perfect Evade skill is crucial.
Initially, Lu Bu charges on Red Hare. Exploit his brief pauses between charges to unleash Battle Arts, then retreat. His attacks, excluding Red Hare's jump attack, have limited area of effect, making evasion relatively easy. Once his health reaches 80%, he dismounts.
Phase 2: Unmounted Lu Bu
On foot, Lu Bu is incredibly aggressive. His rapid attacks and movement make him a challenging foe. A red aura indicates an uninterruptible combo; evade and prepare for a three-part charge. He may attempt a grab attack (easily evaded).
His most dangerous move is a three-volley arrow attack (orange glow). Use a ranged Battle Art like Absconding Slash to counter; close-range arts are fatal. Keep your Musou gauge full for invincibility during emergencies.
Lu Bu is vulnerable to juggling; sustained attacks quickly charge your Battle Arts and deplete his Fortitude. Maintain close proximity for better reaction time. Prioritize evasion.
Phase 3: Lu Bu's Musou Rage
Depleting Lu Bu's health triggers his Musou Rage, making him unstaggerable and unleashing relentless attacks. The objective is to deplete his Fortitude before his Musou attack. Utilize all remaining resources: Musou attacks, Battle Arts, and rapid, powerful strikes. Failing to break his Fortitude before his Musou attack forces a phase restart. Success yields victory.
