Author: Aaron Mar 16,2025

LEGO’s foray into video games began nearly 31 years ago with LEGO Fun to Build on the SEGA Pico. Since then, games built around these iconic Danish bricks and minifigures have blossomed into a genre unto themselves, largely thanks to Traveler’s Tales’ addictive blend of action-platforming and the countless pop-culture properties they’ve LEGO-fied.

Narrowing down the best was a challenge, but we’ve compiled our Top 10 LEGO games of all time (so far!). Don't forget to check out the recently released LEGO Fortnite!

10. LEGO Island

No LEGO games list is complete without the 1997 PC classic, LEGO Island. While its graphics might seem dated, the gameplay remains surprisingly fun and nostalgic. Stop an escaped convict from destroying LEGO Island, brick by brick! Its diverse characters and surprisingly open world were ahead of their time, offering a comfortable and engaging experience. It might be tricky to find now, but a trip to LEGO Island is well worth the effort—just watch out for the Brickster!

9. LEGO The Lord of the Rings

LEGO The Lord of the Rings cleverly uses audio from the movies, creating a surprisingly effective and humorous effect. Witnessing Boromir's death scene while bombarded with bananas is unexpectedly hilarious without diminishing the original film's impact. The game boasts a large roster, including book characters like Tom Bombadil, and delivers the engaging puzzles and action we expect from a LEGO game. It's a strong contender, though not quite top of the list.

8. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures

Surprisingly effective, LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures cleverly adapts the Indiana Jones trilogy into a family-friendly LEGO experience. Similar to the LEGO Star Wars games, it playfully reimagines the films, but with a kid-friendly twist. Gameplay improvements over the earlier LEGO Star Wars titles, coupled with a focus on puzzles and exploration, make this a lasting classic, especially in local co-op. It still holds up remarkably well nearly 15 years later.

7. LEGO DC Super-Villains

LEGO games excel at reimagining darker themes in a family-friendly way. LEGO DC Super-Villains is a rare example of a game letting players be the bad guys. The game’s charm makes even the DC rogues gallery endearing, a testament to TT Games' style. The inclusion of a customizable character adds a creative layer, complementing the licensed characters.

6. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes was TT Games’ first open-world title, featuring a massive Gotham City. While later open worlds have been improved, the charm of LEGO Gotham remains undeniable. A significant improvement over the original, it’s the high point of the LEGO Batman series. It caters to Batman fans and DC enthusiasts alike, with a diverse roster of characters, including General Zod, Killer Moth, and Captain Boomerang. Exploration, collectibles, and Batman's powers make it a top-tier LEGO and Batman game.

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 exceeded expectations with its detailed recreation of the magical world. Following the books and films closely, the game offers exploration of Hogwarts' secret passages, common rooms, and even Quidditch. The sequel, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 (both now in the LEGO Harry Potter Collection), expands the world further, including locations like Zonko’s Joke Shop and Godric’s Hollow. Excellent graphics and rewarding exploration make it a classic LEGO experience.

4. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga

LEGO Star Wars holds the distinction of being the first pop-culture property LEGO-fied. Reimagining Star Wars in LEGO form was a stroke of genius, attracting new fans. While Star Wars games existed, the LEGO style was ripe for adaptation. LEGO Star Wars and its sequel, LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, set the standard for the series, avoiding being mere cash grabs and instead delivering fun gameplay, collectibles, and humor. Without these games, this list wouldn't exist.

This game is packed with content for both casual and hardcore Star Wars fans, including references to spin-off films and TV shows. It sets a new standard for LEGO games.

1. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes

The Marvel Universe is perfectly suited for a LEGO game, with its vast roster of characters and costumes. The diverse powers and gadgets create fun gameplay mechanics. The game takes players to iconic locations across the Marvel Universe, all within a massive New York City hub world.
