11 Bit Studios Links This War of Mine to The Alters

Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their highly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. In a reflective moment, the creators paused to celebrate one of their most iconic projects: the wartime survival game This War of Mine, which catapulted the studio to global recognition more than a decade ago.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing atmosphere, The Alters introduces a more vibrant and often humorous narrative, focusing on the trials faced by alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep connection between the two titles.

Though the settings and atmospheres of the games differ significantly, both are centered around the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players must navigate the brutal realities of war within a besieged city, managing resources and facing daily challenges to keep their group alive. In contrast, The Alters frames survival as a race against time, with players needing to continuously relocate their mobile base to escape the destructive power of an unforgiving sun that reduces everything to dust.

Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones and explore hostile environments in search of scarce resources. The main difference lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine involves guiding a group of random civilians, whereas The Alters features a unique team composed of alternate versions of the main character.

The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, offering players immediate access to this innovative survival adventure.
