How To Access the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been a tantalizing marker on the town map. However, it remained out of reach until the game's eagerly awaited March 2025 update. This guide will walk you through how to unlock the Deep Woods and locate Caldarus within *Fields of Mistria*.

How To Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

To unlock the Deep Woods, you must break the Fire Seal and harness the power of the newly introduced Dragon’s Breath spell to burn away the vines blocking the entrance. Start by gathering four crucial items for the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. You can find the first three between floors 50 and 59, but acquiring the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.

To help Balor obtain the Sealing Scroll, you'll need to deposit the following items in the bin near his wagon:

• x10 Silver Ingots
• x10 Rubies
• x10 Sapphires
• x10 Emeralds

Once these items are in place, speak with Balor again. He'll inform you that the scroll will be available the next day, allowing you to complete the altar offering.

Typically, breaking magic seals rewards you with a message from the enigmatic mines Priestess, unlocking a new biome. However, this time, the outcome deviates from the norm. As you break the seal, the Priestess urges you to flee before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. With your health dwindling, Caldarus appears in his human guise, offering aid before retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.

Caldarus then directs you to find him at his temple, bestowing upon you the Dragon’s Breath spell. This potent spell not only burns through the vines concealing the Deep Woods entrance but can also reveal other hidden areas on the map. To use it, equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and activate it at the entrance to permanently unlock the Deep Woods and beyond.

How To Find Caldarus

After shattering the Fire Seal, you can locate Caldarus within his temple in the Deep Woods. The temple is situated north of the Eastern Road on your map, and accessing it requires the Dragon’s Breath spell. Caldarus' precise location is marked on your map, similar to other NPCs, and you'll find him in the northeast corner of the area.

To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to clear a blocking stump. Continue north until you arrive at the temple, where Caldarus awaits inside.

Once the Deep Woods is unlocked, utilize the Dragon Statue on your farm for quick travel to this area. Teleporting costs just 10 Essence, a small price for the convenience it offers over traditional travel methods. Even when not physically present, you can interact with Caldarus through his statue in spirit.
