At CES 2025, AMD unveiled its next-generation graphics cards, the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, as part of the RDNA 4 lineup. Surprisingly, these new GPUs were absent from AMD's keynote, yet vendors showcased them on the show floor with specifications under wraps. David McAfee, VP & GM of Radeon Graphics and Ryzen CPUs, took to Twitter/X to announce that these eagerly awaited graphics cards will hit the market in March 2025.

"Radeon 9000 series hardware and software are looking great and we are planning to have a wide assortment of cards available globally," McAfee stated. "Can’t wait for gamers to get their hands on the cards when they go on sale in March!"

While the release month is set, AMD has kept details like specifications and pricing under wraps. It's speculated that the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT will compete directly with Nvidia's upcoming RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, which are slated for a February launch. Interestingly, reports suggest that stock of the AMD cards has already reached retailers and is in the hands of reviewers, with eTeknix confirming they've received review samples.

The situation has sparked speculation that AMD's delay in the official launch might be a strategic move to respond directly to Nvidia's offerings, enabling a head-to-head comparison. There's also speculation that Nvidia's pricing strategy may have influenced AMD's decision to delay the RX 9070 lineup's release.

With scant details available, the launch messaging for the RX 9070 lineup has been somewhat chaotic. A June 2024 report highlighted Nvidia's commanding 88% share of the discrete GPU market, with AMD holding just 12%. Without significant competition at the mid-range or high-end segments, AMD faces a crucial challenge to make inroads into Nvidia's dominant position in the consumer graphics card market.
