Hype for a Bloodborne Remaster Ignites on Instagram

A Beloved Classic Deserves a Modern Revival

Bloodborne, the critically acclaimed 2015 RPG, remains a fan favorite. Many yearn to revisit Yharnam's gothic streets on modern consoles. While unconfirmed, recent Instagram posts from FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia featuring the game have reignited the fervor.

On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One depicted Djura, a hunter encountered in Old Yharnam; others showcased the Hunter exploring Yharnam's heart and Charnel Lane's graveyards.

While potentially a simple nostalgic gesture, Bloodborne enthusiasts on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) have meticulously analyzed these images, searching for remaster clues. The speculation is intensified by a similar post from PlayStation Italia on August 17th. This post, translated, asked fans to choose their favorite iconic Bloodborne location, prompting many to express their desire for a Yharnam return on PC or modern consoles.

Nearly a Decade Later, the Hunt for a Modern Bloodborne Continues

Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne boasts a dedicated following and critical acclaim, frequently cited among the greatest video games ever made. Yet, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.

Fans point to the 2020 Demon's Souls remake (originally released in 2009) as a potential precedent. However, this also fuels concerns about a lengthy wait; Demon's Souls took over a decade for its remake. As Bloodborne approaches its tenth anniversary, anticipation for a remaster intensifies.

In a February interview with Eurogamer, director Hidetaka Miyazaki acknowledged the potential benefits of remastering Bloodborne for modern hardware, stating, "I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value... I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important."

Despite Miyazaki's comments, the final decision rests with Sony, not FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring (fully owned by FromSoftware), Bloodborne's IP remains with Sony. Miyazaki himself has stated in interviews with IGN and others that he is unable to comment on the matter due to IP ownership.
