Cursed Objects (also known as "Cursed Possessions") are randomly generated items in Phasmophobia, appearing on various maps depending on game mode and settings. Activating them requires locating and interacting with them in the game location.

Unlike standard equipment, Cursed Objects provide gameplay advantages with significant drawbacks. These "cheats" – such as pinpointing the ghost's favorite room or boosting your team – come at the cost of reduced sanity, temporary blindness, or unexpected "cursed" hunts. Strategic use is key; sometimes, leaving them untouched is the best approach. Note that Cursed Objects won't spawn at all difficulty levels or in Challenge Mode.

Phasmophobia currently features seven Cursed Objects, each with unique abilities and debilitating effects. A common consequence is a substantial sanity decrease for the user. Proximity to the user increases the likelihood of a "cursed hunt" immediately following activation.

Cursed hunts mirror regular hunts but ignore sanity levels, even if a hunt recently concluded. They also last 20 seconds longer, making escape more challenging depending on difficulty settings.

The following table summarizes each Cursed Object's function:

Cursed ObjectAbility
Tarot CardsTen random cards providing buffs, debuffs, or increased ghost activity. The "Death" card can trigger a Cursed Hunt.
Ouija BoardDirect communication with the ghost. Specific questions ("Hide and Seek") or shattering the board trigger Cursed Hunts.
Haunted MirrorReveals the ghost's favorite room. Shattering the mirror triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Music BoxReveals the ghost's location via a special event. Prolonged use triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Summoning CircleSummons and traps the ghost. Always triggers a Cursed Hunt unless a Tier 3 Crucifix is present.
Voodoo DollForces ghost interactions by pushing pins. Pushing the heart pin triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Monkey PawGrants wishes influencing the ghost or environment. Some wishes can severely hinder the player.

The best Cursed Objects depend on game mode and difficulty. However, some offer higher reward with lower risk:

Haunted Mirror

The Haunted Mirror is the safest option, efficiently revealing the ghost's location. This allows for quicker evidence gathering, especially on larger maps. Limit usage to avoid sanity loss and triggering a Cursed Hunt.

Ouija Board

A reliable choice, the Ouija Board directly reveals the ghost's location and the bone's location, aiding in achieving "Perfect Investigation" bonuses.

Useful for triggering ghost interactions, especially when evidence gathering is slow. Avoid the heart pin to prevent Cursed Hunts.
