Rompopolo, a Brute Wyvern-type monster, first makes its appearance in *Monster Hunter Wilds* during Chapter 2, specifically in Mission 2-1: Toward Fervent Fields. You'll meet this formidable creature in the Oilwell Basin region as you journey towards Azuz City, and defeating it is crucial to progress further.
Once you've successfully defeated Rompopolo for the first time, its entry will be added to your Large Monster Field Guide. You have the opportunity to engage with it repeatedly, either by exploring the Oilwell Basin or by initiating the "Oilwell Basin Blast" Optional Quest available at your Tent.

To prepare effectively for the battle against Rompopolo, arm your hunter with water-element weapons, ideally obtained from Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest. Additionally, equip gear with fire resistance, which you can farm from Uth Duna (starting with the belt and greaves) or from Ajarakan later in the chapter.
Consider crafting a fire-resistance Talisman like the Fire Charm I or a general defense charm such as Defense Charm I to bolster your defenses. Before heading into battle, don't forget to grill a meal to enhance your health and stamina.
Rompopolo Attacks and Weaknesses

Rompopolo, being a unique wyvern, boasts a distinctive set of attacks. Its body features saggy skin that inflates with gas, which it uses as ammunition for gas-related attacks, including explosions. It can also inflict poison status ailments, so carrying Antidotes is essential. Your Palico can assist in cleansing these ailments.
Key attacks to be wary of include:
- Arm Swipe – Rompopolo uses its clawed arms to swipe forward twice. This is relatively easy to dodge due to its limited range.
- Lunge With Arm Swipe – It charges forward while raising both arms to execute an arcing swipe attack.
- Tail Swing – Rompopolo swings its tail toward its target, another physical attack to watch out for.
- Poison Stream or Swipe – It can spray a stream of poison gas or charge while swinging its head and spraying poison.
- Oil Explosion – From a distance, Rompopolo injects gas into oil pools to cause explosions. Be sure to dodge these.
- Charged Oil Explosion – Later in the fight, it curls its tail underneath and pumps more gas into the oil for a larger explosion. Dodge this to avoid significant damage.
Should You Kill or Capture Rompopolo?

As with previous *Monster Hunter* games, you have the choice to either capture or kill Rompopolo towards the end of the battle. To capture it, first, weaken the monster until your Palico indicates that it's "tired" (nearly dead). Then, use either Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps to ensnare it, followed by at least one Tranq Bomb to knock it out, completing the capture.
Both capturing and killing yield viable rewards, though the items you receive may differ slightly. Some items are exclusive to either capturing or killing. While the exact differences in drops are yet to be confirmed, here are the potential low-rank and high-rank drops from Rompopolo:
