Even though Yetuga is the first boss you'll face, don't expect an easy fight. You'll need to master the combat mechanics introduced earlier in the game to emerge victorious. Yetuga is an aggressive enemy, relentlessly attacking when you invade its territory at the conclusion of the Mount Heinmach level. Like other large foes in the game, it can unleash both long-range and short-range attacks, including a fearsome leaping slam.
Your strategy will depend on your playstyle, but you'll need to master dodging and parrying to minimize damage. Yetuga has a repertoire of attacks:
- A two-hit combo starting with a left-handed downward smash followed by a right-handed uppercut.
- A four-hit combo with horizontal swipes using either its left or right arm.
- A powerful downward smash with both arms.
- A leaping single-handed smash.
- A jumping grab.
- A charge attack.
As you fight, you'll learn its patterns, allowing you to strike back between its attacks. Parrying, aside from the jumping grab, will help you deal more Stamina damage to Yetuga. Use its aggressive nature to your advantage; for instance, dodging its charge and letting it smash into a wall will create a brief window for you to attack. This is a prime opportunity to destroy the ice spikes on its back, which will reduce its attacking power.

In the second phase, you can parry all attacks except the grab, which will help conserve your Stamina. Keep applying pressure, and you'll eventually trigger the next stage of the battle. When Yetuga roars and powers up, back off immediately.
In this phase, it will pick up a giant rock and smash it towards you. Timing your dodge or parry correctly is crucial to avoid damage. Additionally, Yetuga will start using a frost breath that creates ice spikes; either move out of the way or parry the attack when it reaches you. Seize the moment to use Potent Attacks when possible, and when Yetuga is exhausted, unleash a Brutal Attack for significant damage. With persistence, Yetuga will soon fall.
Defeating Yetuga rewards you with 4,800 Lacrima, along with some Frozen Mountain gear items and the Necklace of Resolve.
