CD Projekt Red Issues Warning
CD Projekt Red's official statement clarified that they have been actively working to remove the deceptive messages. The developer reassured fans that any legitimate future beta tests would be announced through The Witcher’s official channels.
First Revealed in December 2024
The Witcher 4 made its debut announcement at the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer that introduced Ciri as the new protagonist. This shift from the series' long-standing hero, Geralt, sparked considerable discussion among fans.
In a subsequent interview with VGC, The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed the community's reaction to Ciri taking the lead role. Weber, who also appreciated Geralt's character, assured fans that the team is committed to making Ciri's journey compelling and worthwhile. He emphasized that the decision to feature Ciri was a long-term plan, not a recent one.
The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed gratitude for the support from fans and acknowledged their right to voice their opinions. Mitręga believes that the game itself, upon release, will be the best response to the community's feedback.
