Dragon Quest 3 Remake: How to Get the Yellow Orb

This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. Unlike other orbs, its location, Merchantburg (initially displayed as ???), is dynamically named after the merchant you hire.

Finding Merchantburg (???)

After obtaining the ship from King Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg is accessible in the northeast corner of the world map. Sail west from the coast to reach the easternmost edge of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg

While orb acquisition order is flexible, visiting Merchantburg early is recommended. Its growth takes time, so establishing it soon after getting the ship allows you to collect other orbs concurrently.

Acquiring the Yellow Orb

1. Hire a Merchant: In Aliahan, visit PALS and hire a new merchant. Minimize combat en route.

2. Establish Merchantburg: At Merchantburg (???), speak to the old man in the building. Offer your hired merchant; they'll leave your party to establish the town, officially naming it.

3. Merchantburg's Growth: Following the suggested path (Purple Orb from Orochi's Lair, Blue Orb from Gaia's Navel), you'll receive notifications to revisit Merchantburg. The town progresses through five growth stages. Each visit shows increased development, culminating in a large cabaret. After each visit (except the last), you'll need to speak to the guard outside the cabaret.

4. The Revolt: On your fourth visit, notice the merchant's growing unpopularity. The fifth visit (at night) reveals a revolt. The merchant is imprisoned in the house south of his former residence.

5. The Yellow Orb's Location: Speak to the imprisoned merchant to learn the Yellow Orb's location. Return to his house; the orb is hidden behind the sofa, marked by a quest marker.

The Yellow Orb is typically one of the last orbs acquired. Other orb locations include: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
