FromSoftware has unveiled further details about its upcoming exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has notably influenced the game's style and even the design of the hub area's keeper, introducing a unique and charming element to the game.
During the recent Switch 2 Direct, the trailer concluded with an intriguing shot of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, which has piqued the curiosity of fans. This character, as revealed by director Hidetaka Miyazaki in an interview with Nintendo, serves a role akin to the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. Positioned in the hub area, the winged rat will offer players advice and guidance throughout their journey.
Miyazaki noted, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership." He elaborated on this by saying, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)." This marks a departure from FromSoftware's typical shrine keepers, such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll, who have been pivotal in players' experiences across various titles.
Given The Duskbloods's PvPvE format, it remains to be seen how the winged rat will assist players. Miyazaki hinted at the inclusion of "a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players should anticipate unexpected elements when the game launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
