Both Blizzard Entertainment and Grinding Gear Games have remained tight-lipped about whether they will ban Elon Musk's accounts following his reported admission of cheating in their action RPGs, Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2. Screenshots of a private conversation between Musk and a YouTuber revealed that the billionaire had paid for account boosting, a practice that violates the terms of service of most live service video games. Blizzard's end user license agreement explicitly prohibits account boosting or power-leveling in exchange for payment.

Following Musk's admission, players have voiced their concerns on the official forums of both games. A Path of Exile player questioned the integrity of the game, expressing disappointment in Grinding Gear Games for not taking immediate action against Musk. Similarly, on Battle.net, players debated the fairness of the rules, wondering why Musk's account should be exempt from bans despite his admission of cheating.

When approached for comment, both Grinding Gear Games and Blizzard declined to provide statements on the matter, with Blizzard stating they do not discuss individual player account behaviors or enforcements.

Musk has previously boasted about his gaming skills, notably claiming to be among the top 20 players globally for Diablo 4 and achieving a high level in Path of Exile 2. He has stated that gaming helps him relax and cope with stress. However, his gaming achievements have come under scrutiny, with some questioning how he could achieve such high levels given his demanding roles at Tesla, SpaceX, X/Twitter, and as Donald Trump's efficiency tsar.

Doubts about Musk's gaming prowess intensified after an early January livestream where he struggled with basic game mechanics in Path of Exile 2. Suspicions that Musk was using account boosting services were confirmed when a video posted by Diablo player NikoWrex showed Musk admitting to the practice, citing the need to compete with Asian players.

Musk defended his actions, stating that he only uses boosting to level the playing field and does not take credit for high-level achievements in leveling races. He emphasized that when he streams or posts game videos, it is genuinely him playing.

In response to the controversy, musician Grimes, who shares three children with Musk, defended his gaming achievements, citing specific accomplishments she witnessed firsthand.

Further allegations surfaced when Musk's Path of Exile 2 character was active during his attendance at Trump's inauguration, raising more questions about his involvement in the game.
