Fallout 76 Season 20 introduces an exciting new feature for players: the ability to become a Ghoul in the radiation-filled wasteland of Appalachia. This update, titled "The Ghoul Within," is now live and brings a host of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetics to enhance your gameplay and customize your C.A.M.P.
Unleash the Ghoul Within
To transform into a Ghoul, players must complete the "Leap of Faith" questline, which leads to a new area in the Savage Divide. Here, you'll encounter unique characters that aid in your transformation. Once a Ghoul, you gain access to exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-specific Perks, known as "Gherks."
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter. Depending on its level, it provides different boosts. At 0%, players experience a dramatic shift: a +150% increase in Melee Damage, but a significant reduction in Endurance (-5), Charisma (-99), Max HP (-30), Max AP (-20), and both Hip-fire and V.A.T.S. Accuracy (-300%).
The Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing players to emit a visible glow. This ability boosts maximum health, heals damage, and enhances the effectiveness of Gherks.
There are 28 perks available for Ghouls, plus two new legendary perks. Note that Ghouls cannot use perks related to Hunger, Thirst, or Chem Resistance, as these are not relevant to their new condition.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the wasteland as a Ghoul is made easier with Gherks and abilities tailored to the radiation-heavy environment. However, factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile towards Ghouls, potentially restricting access to certain questlines.
To circumvent these limitations, players can obtain disguises from a new NPC named Jaye, allowing interaction with previously inaccessible content. If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, you can revert to human form via the Character Screen, though this is a one-way process. Re-transformation into a Ghoul can be purchased for 1000 Atoms.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
Season 20 also introduces the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost is designed to help both new and veteran players quickly engage with multiplayer features like Daily Ops and Public Events, as well as some story content.
The update includes numerous bug fixes and balance adjustments, such as accessibility improvements, combat balancing, and weapon damage tweaks. Bethesda has also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update set for April 29, which is part of their season calendar.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has overcome its initial challenges and now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being positive. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
