What Are Legendary Sumi-E in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Legendary Sumi-E are special paintings of animals that Naoe or Yasuke can create while exploring the wilds of Japan. You'll spot a painting icon on your compass and map when you're close. To capture these moments, crouch and stealthily approach your target. Once near, hold L2/LT to complete the painting. However, finding the legendary versions is trickier as they don't show up on the map. There are five legendary Sumi-E, each available in specific seasons and times.

All Legendary Sumi-E Locations in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Legendary Tanuki – Summer, Daytime

To capture the Legendary Tanuki Sumi-E, head to the Omi region during the summer and daytime. Navigate to the Shimmering Fields, specifically the Shigaraki Hamlet. You'll know you're in the right spot when you see Tanuki statues. Follow the path uphill to a clearing where you can find the Tanuki. Take your time to approach and complete your painting.

Legendary Grey Heron – Winter, Daytime

The Grey Heron can be found in the Wakasa region's Lake Suigetsu area during winter and daytime. Head to the cluster of islands west of the lake. Approach cautiously on foot, and once you reach the marked location, crouch and sneak up to complete the Sumi-E.

Legendary Macaque – All Seasons, Nighttime

To find the Legendary Macaque, ride to the Yamashiro region and locate the Little Leaf Glade sub-region, near the Sarumaru Shrine. Wait until night, then ascend the stairs to the top where you'll find the three wise monkeys, ready for you to paint.

Legendary Silver Fox – Autumn, Nighttime

The legendary Silver Fox Sumi-E is available at night during Autumn in the Kii region's Nakahechi Route sub-region. Visit the Kamimisu Inari Shrine, where you'll find fox statues. The Silver Fox awaits at the cliff's edge, ready for you to capture its image.

Legendary Deer – Spring, Nighttime

To capture the Legendary Deer, travel to the Yamato region's Yoshino sub-region during spring and nighttime. Fast-travel to the Mountain Blossom Temple to the west, then head east to the Sakura Meadows. Ascend the slopes to a clearing where the Deer awaits your artistic touch.

Remember, even if you're in the right place at the right time, the animals might not always spawn. If that happens, try fast-traveling to a nearby location and return to see if your luck changes. With perseverance, you'll soon complete your collection.
