Hearthstone has unveiled comprehensive details about the eagerly anticipated Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set, scheduled for release on January 21. This Mini-Set, the largest in Hearthstone's history, introduces 49 new cards, including class cards, multi-class StarCraft faction cards, and a unique neutral Legendary card.
During the Warcraft Direct on November 13, 2024, Hearthstone teased the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set for The Great Dark Beyond expansion, marking a crossover with Blizzard’s beloved yet underrepresented sci-fi RTS, StarCraft. Initial details were sparse, but more information was promised post-New Year.
Two months later, Hearthstone has fully disclosed the contents of this expansive micro-expansion. Heroes of StarCraft contains 49 new cards—11 more than the usual Mini-Set. Each Hearthstone class receives three cards, and each of the three StarCraft factions (Zerg, Protoss, and Terran) is represented by five cards usable by corresponding classes, one of which is a Legendary. Additionally, the Mini-Set includes a neutral Legendary card named Grunty. Hearthstone has already showcased some of these cards, with more reveals planned in the lead-up to the launch.
Hearthstone Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set Release Date
- January 21
The Zerg-themed cards, accessible to Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Hunter, and Warlock, emphasize summoning numerous Zerglings and utilizing Hydralisks to deal damage proportional to the swarm's size. Meanwhile, the Protoss cards for Druid, Mage, Priest, and Rogue focus on mana manipulation to cast high-cost cards like the Carrier. The Paladin, Shaman, and Warrior classes gain new Starship mechanics from Hearthstone’s The Great Dark Beyond set, including Starship Pieces, methods to launch multiple Starships, and a unique Mech-type Starship.
Despite its larger size, the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set comes at a higher price. While the cards are available in The Great Dark Beyond packs, a complete playset of all Heroes of StarCraft cards can be purchased for $20 or 2500 gold—$5 and 500 gold more than typical Mini-Sets—or in its all-Golden version for $80 or 12,000 gold, compared to the usual $70 and 10,000 gold. Alternatively, players can buy faction-specific packs (Protoss, Terran, or Zerg) for $10 or 1200 gold.
To celebrate the Mini-Set's release, Hearthstone has organized two streaming events: StarCast on January 23 at 10 AM PST and HearthCraft on January 24 at 9 AM PST. StarCast will feature renowned StarCraft players TrumpSC and Day9 playing with the new cards, while HearthCraft will showcase Hearthstone community creators representing each faction in competitive matches and mini-games. Viewers can earn two normal and two Golden The Great Dark Beyond packs by watching these events on Twitch, so fans should tune in to not miss out on the free rewards.
