Hill Troll Location in Rune Slayer
The Hill Troll is concealed within a cave on the side of the mountain in Bahlgar. The most straightforward route to this location starts from the elevator in Lakeshire. Head down to Bahlgar as you would to engage Beastmen, but instead of descending where they are, stick close to the mountain's wall and continue around it. Pass two platinum deposits and scan the mountain's side for the cave entrance. You'll need to leap into this opening, ideally on a mount, to access it. It may seem tricky at first, but once you've done it, revisiting the cave will become second nature. Check out our gif to see the route in action (we even stumbled upon a group battling the Troll and joined in to help).
Hill Troll – Strategy, Loot, and Quest
Despite its intimidating appearance, the Hill Troll is one of the more manageable mini-bosses in Rune Slayer. You'll likely face it multiple times, so familiarizing yourself with its attack patterns is key.
Avoid soloing the Hill Troll. Its attacks, though slow and powerful, are predictable and can be dodged. It's best to team up with at least one other player, as many enjoy farming the Troll. After defeating it, the Troll respawns in just 90 seconds, allowing for efficient farming.
The Troll wields a giant pillar, and while most of its attacks can be parried or blocked, be cautious when it raises the pillar overhead with both hands—this move stuns. With sufficient damage, you can stagger the Troll, and if you're playing as a Warrior Class, a well-timed Counter can stun it.
While the Hill Troll occasionally drops rare equipment, focus on farming Troll Hides and Troll Heads. Troll Hides are crucial for crafting solid endgame gear, which, though not the best, will prepare you for tougher challenges like the Mother Spider.
The Troll Head is a key item for the repeatable Hodor Quest. You can hand it to Hodor, located near the cave, every hour for a chance at random, potentially overpowered loot. If you're grinding the Hill Troll, this quest is a must.
Can You Tame the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer?
Unfortunately, taming the Hill Troll is not an option in Rune Slayer, even for Beast Tamer Archers. As a mini-boss, it's too large and unwieldy to serve as a pet. Plus, it's doubtful the Troll could even leave its cave. Stick to taming more manageable creatures like the Mud Crab if you're a Beast Tamer Archer.
That's everything you need to know about facing the Hill Troll. Enjoy the repeated battles and the loot they bring. For more endgame strategies, don't miss our Essential Rune Slayer End Game Tips.
