Hyper Light Breaker offers a variety of resources essential for progression, and among the most coveted are Golden Rations. These are the rarest resources in the game and are crucial for unlocking some of the most vital upgrades. The game, however, provides little guidance on how to acquire these materials. Like many roguelike games, you'll learn through trial and error, but if you want to skip the guesswork, here's how to reliably find Golden Rations.

Where to Get Golden Rations

There are two primary ways to obtain Golden Rations in the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker: through exploration and cycle resets. During your runs, keep an eye out for chest icons on the map. These chests often contain resources necessary for purchases or unlocking upgrades, and you might find Golden Rations inside them. You can identify a chest with Golden Rations by the Golden Ration icon displayed above it.

Areas with Prisms, marked by a golden diamond icon on the map, are likely to have Golden Ration chests nearby.

Alternatively, you can acquire Golden Rations by waiting for or forcing a cycle reset. A cycle represents each instance of the Overgrowth and resets when your Rez count hits zero. Once you're out of revives, you can choose to retry the map in exchange for resources or reset the cycle entirely at the Cursed Outpost. After a cycle reset, you'll receive a score, and ranking up can reward you with Golden Rations.

What are Golden Rations For?

Golden Rations are essential materials in Hyper Light Breaker, used primarily to unlock upgrades at your home base. You can spend these rations to gain permanent upgrades for your characters or access new services from vendors.

Moreover, Golden Rations are used to unlock Sycoms, which define your chosen Breaker's stats and core passive ability. Sycoms are pivotal in shaping your Breaker's playstyle, making them highly valuable.

When you obtain your first Golden Ration, we highly recommend using it to purchase the extra medkit upgrade from Pherus Bit. This upgrade can significantly ease future runs, especially since the game penalizes mistakes during combat.

If you die during a run, you'll retain any resources you've collected. However, the weapons, amps, and perks you've equipped will suffer one pip's worth of damage, which could lead to their permanent destruction.
