Jacksepticeye's Unannounced Soma Animated Show Falls Apart Unexpectedly

In a recent video titled 'A Bad Month,' popular YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, shared his disappointment over the cancellation of a Soma animated show he had been working on for a year. Soma, a critically acclaimed survival horror science fiction video game developed by Frictional Games, was released in 2015 and has been a favorite of Jacksepticeye, who streamed it extensively upon its launch.

Jacksepticeye expressed his deep connection to Soma, describing it as one of the best video games he has ever played due to its compelling story. He had been in discussions with the game's developers for a year, planning to bring the game's narrative to life in an animated format. However, the project fell apart unexpectedly when an unnamed party decided to take the project in a different direction, leaving Jacksepticeye "quite upset."

The cancellation of the Soma animated show significantly disrupted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025. He had intended to focus his efforts on this project, which would have reduced his content output but allowed him to share a significant creative endeavor with his audience. The abrupt end to the project left him feeling frustrated and uncertain about his future priorities.

In the video, Jacksepticeye also touched on a broader period of creative difficulty, mentioning other projects that had either been canceled or failed to progress. Following Soma, Frictional Games released two more entries in the Amnesia series: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In July 2023, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip indicated a shift in focus away from horror games towards exploring other emotional qualities in their future projects. This shift aims to provide players with immersive experiences beyond the realm of horror, such as being a World War 1 soldier or a robot at the ocean's bottom.
