Warhorse Studios confirms: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) will launch DRM-free. Rumors of Denuvo or other DRM integration are false.
Warhorse Studios Addresses DRM Concerns for KCD2
Contrary to online speculation, the developers have explicitly stated that KCD2 will not utilize any digital rights management (DRM) system, including Denuvo. This clarification follows a wave of inquiries from concerned gamers.
In a recent Twitch stream, Warhorse Studios PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, directly addressed the misinformation: "KCD 2 will not have Denuvo, or any DRM at all. We never confirmed otherwise. There were some miscommunications, but the final decision is DRM-free."
He appealed to fans to cease the ongoing inquiries about DRM, stating that any information not officially released by Warhorse Studios is inaccurate.
The absence of DRM is welcome news to many gamers who have voiced concerns about potential performance issues and negative impacts on gameplay associated with DRM technologies, particularly Denuvo. While Denuvo serves as anti-piracy software, its implementation has often been met with criticism.
Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged the negative perception surrounding the technology, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 launches February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set in medieval Bohemia, the game follows Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice whose village is tragically destroyed. Players who contributed at least $200 to the game's Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
