Despite EA's efforts to keep details under wraps by requiring non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) from participants in the closed playtesting of their upcoming untitled Battlefield game, the information has inevitably leaked online. The internet is now flooded with dozens of videos and screenshots, showcasing the experiences of those involved in the testing phase.
As previously reported when these leaks first appeared, the footage aligns with the modern setting that Vince Zampella had hinted at, setting this game apart from its predecessors. A quick browse through the Battlefield subreddit reveals a variety of intense firefights, glimpses into the game's destructible environments, and several new gameplay mechanics. These include the ability to hang off vehicles and drag wounded teammates to safety, adding new layers to the gameplay experience.
Surprisingly, EA has taken a relatively hands-off approach to these leaks. Typically, game publishers are quick to act against such breaches, as early footage can showcase unfinished elements like animations, UI, and graphics. However, despite the clear violation of confidentiality agreements, EA has not yet moved to remove the leaked content.
This leniency might be influenced by the positive reception to the leaks, especially when compared to the tepid response to Battlefield 2042. Fans seem to be genuinely excited about what they've seen so far.
One player expressed cautious optimism, saying, "I am scared to say that but this game is shaping up very damn well. I hope there are no catches…" Another added, "The animations of the weapons moving around while running / doing anything look better than 2042 to me."
The enthusiasm continued with comments like, "Dude, even in a pre-alpha state, the explosions, bullets, and projectiles whizzing by, buildings crumbling down, dust kicking up. This has so much potential!" and "I can't get over how good the sounds and the destruction look at alpha."
EA has announced that the new Battlefield game is slated for release within the fiscal year 2026, spanning from April 2025 to March 2026. Following the first official unveiling last month, it was confirmed that the game will feature a return to a traditional, single-player, linear campaign, a move that has been warmly received by fans who missed this element in the multiplayer-focused Battlefield 2042.
