Marvel Contest of Champions: A Deep Dive into Champion Cards

Marvel Contest of Champions (MCoC) isn't confined to mobile devices; it boasts an arcade presence at Dave & Buster's, offering a unique competitive twist. This arcade cabinet allows two-player 3v3 battles, with the victor decided by a best-of-three series. The real draw, however, is the post-match reward: a physical Champion Card, showcasing a Marvel hero or villain from the game.

These aren't just collectibles; they're also in-game assets. Scan a card to select your champion before a match. With two series released, there are over 175 cards, including standard and foil versions. Whether you're aiming for victory or a complete collection, this guide covers everything you need to know.

Understanding Champion Cards

Champion Cards are physical trading cards dispensed by MCoC arcade machines at Dave & Buster's. Each card represents a game character and can be used to choose your champion in the arcade game. Unscanned cards result in random champion selection.

Each card features an MCoC Marvel character and a rarer foil variant, mirroring collectible arcade cards from games like Mario Kart Arcade GP and Injustice Arcade. Series 1 introduced 75 champions, while Series 2 added another 100, including some redesigned Series 1 characters.

Every player receives a card after each match, win or lose. The card is randomly assigned, regardless of the match outcome. Cards are drawn from the existing two series (75 in Series 1, 100 in Series 2), each with a rarer foil variant.

While not mandatory for arcade gameplay, Champion Cards add strategic depth and personalization. Instead of random assignments, players can strategically choose their champions. Note that these cards don't transfer to the mobile MCoC game, but they enhance the arcade experience with a collectible element. For mobile MCoC improvement tips, check out our beginner's guide!

Champion Card Rarity and Collectibility

Like traditional trading cards, MCoC Champion Cards are highly collectible. While all cards function identically in the arcade game, many players strive for complete sets, including the rarer foil versions. Series 2 introduced new designs and redesigns of Series 1 characters, leading to multiple versions of some cards.

The complete card roster includes:

  • Series 1 (2019): 75 cards featuring classic MCoC characters.
  • Series 2 (later release): 100 cards, including redesigns and new characters.
  • Foil variants: Rarer, more valuable versions of standard cards.

Collectors pursue complete sets, specific Marvel characters, or simply the foil cards. Their exclusive availability at Dave & Buster's adds to their appeal.
