Simu Liu, the star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has ignited a spark of hope for fans of the video game Sleeping Dogs. A film adaptation, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, was officially cancelled earlier this month. However, Liu recently responded to a fan on X/Twitter, stating, "Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen."

This news comes as a surprise, especially after Yen himself confirmed the project's cancellation, citing years of work and investment that ultimately came to naught. He lamented the unpredictable nature of Hollywood, leaving fans to believe the adaptation was truly dead.

Liu's involvement, however, offers a glimmer of possibility. The details of his efforts remain unclear; whether he's acquiring the rights or pursuing alternative avenues to get the film made is yet to be seen.

Released in 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, Sleeping Dogs captivated players with its gripping story of undercover detective Wei Shen navigating the treacherous world of Hong Kong's Triad gangs. The game was critically acclaimed, receiving an 8/10 rating from IGN, yet it never received a sequel. Liu's potential involvement could finally bring this beloved game to the big screen.
