Get ready for a new chapter in the Star Wars saga! Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, picking up after the epic Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. This exciting new series will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they work to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, writer of the acclaimed Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, takes the helm, crafting a narrative illustrated by Star Wars veteran Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron). Noto, alongside Leinil Yu, will contribute cover art for the first issue.

Set approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars series plunges into a hopeful, yet precarious era. The New Republic strives for galactic dominance, but faces unexpected challenges from opportunistic pirates, cunning thieves, and other nefarious villains eager to exploit the power vacuum. This new series promises thrilling action and memorable character moments, blending familiar elements with surprising twists.
“Now that we’ve concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can propel ourselves into a new, uncharted era,” Segura explained to StarWars.com. “This will feature new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our heroes to confront, blending the familiar with the new and shocking. These stories will be action-packed, with character moments Star Wars fans expect, offering fresh perspectives on the galaxy while ensuring accessibility for new readers. We’re incredibly excited!”
Noto added, “Alex has crafted phenomenal storylines and new characters, and I'm thrilled to bring them to life. It’s exciting to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, free from existing film or TV interpretations. I get to create fresh looks while referencing the actors from the 80s to capture the essence of this timeline.”
Star Wars #1 blasts off on May 7, 2025, coinciding with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. February brings Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey after The Last Jedi.
