In NieR: Automata, small swords are a versatile choice, boasting fast attack speeds and a compact hitbox. They're a solid middle ground for tackling diverse enemy types. While weapon upgrades enhance their effectiveness, numerous powerful weapons, such as the Type-40 sword, are available through side quests, significantly boosting your character's strength.
The Type-40 sword, however, is easily missed. Here's a step-by-step guide to obtaining it:
How to Get the Type-40 Sword in NieR: Automata
The Type-40 sword is the reward for completing the side quest "Find a Present," the final quest in a chain involving Operator 6O. Unlocking this quest requires completing two preceding quests. Here's the complete process, including chapter suggestions for using Chapter Select:
- After defeating Adam and Eve in Chapter 5, you'll receive a call from Operator 6O. This initiates the "Investigating Communications" quest—complete it immediately as it's missable.
- Progress through Chapter 6 (Forest Castle) and into Chapter 7.
- After speaking with Pascal about A2, explore the city ruins. You'll receive another call from Operator 6O, directing you to an access point to start the "Terminal Repairs" quest.
- While returning to the Resistance Camp during Chapter 7, you'll receive a final call from Operator 6O regarding flowers, with a new message in your inbox.
- Interact with this message to begin "Find a Present."
- Completing "Find a Present" rewards you with the Type-40 sword, delivered to your in-game inbox.
At level 1, the Type-40 sword features a 5-hit light attack combo and a 3-hit heavy attack combo. Upgrading it to level 4 increases the light attack combo to 7 hits and enhances its effectiveness against stunned enemies. You'll need Titanium Alloy for these upgrades.
