While referred to as playthroughs, many consider each as a distinct chapter in the overarching narrative.

After viewing the credits at the end of a playthrough, save your game. Loading this save file will initiate the next section, often with a different playable character. The final playthrough involves multiple character switches; its completion unlocks Chapter Select for that save file.

How Chapter Select Functions In NieR: Automata

Access the Chapter Select menu in two ways:

• From the main menu of your save file upon loading the game.
• From any access point within the game world.

This menu allows you to select any chapter from the main story. All aspects of your profile, including weapons, level, and items, are retained. When loading a chapter, you can choose your playable character, provided that chapter features multiple characters.
