Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Details
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions and design.
Key features showcased include a larger form factor approaching the size of the Valve Steam Deck, magnetic Joy-Con controllers with optical sensors, a second USB-C port, and an enigmatic "C" button.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge. The SL and SR buttons utilize magnets, detached via a button-activated pin mechanism. Despite the change from sliding rails, the Joy-Con remain securely attached during gameplay, according to Tsai.
Further Switch 2 Insights:
The Joy-Con's mounting channels incorporate optical sensors, hinting at potential functionality as mouse-like input devices via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.
While larger than its predecessor, the Switch 2 remains slim enough to physically fit within the original Switch dock. However, design modifications prevent compatibility. The functions of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain undisclosed.
