Speculation that Starfield will soon be confirmed for release on PlayStation 5 intensified over the weekend after eagle-eyed fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda’s official Creations website. The logo was associated with a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield, which was subsequently removed. Despite the removal, fans are buzzing with excitement over the possibility that Bethesda’s sci-fi epic, previously exclusive to PC and Xbox, might soon make its way to PS5.

They have added the Playstation logo to a creation. (I think they are beta testers, the logo only appears on one creation)

The discovery has sparked discussions about whether Bethesda is planning a significant content update, perhaps even a new expansion, to coincide with Starfield’s anticipated PS5 debut. Following the lukewarm reception of the Shattered Space expansion, the community has been eagerly awaiting more substantial updates. Bethesda's parent company, Microsoft, is rumored to be hosting another summer showcase this year, which could be the perfect platform to unveil new details about Starfield.

Bethesda has teased "exciting things" in store for Starfield this year, amid growing fan frustration over the lack of communication and updates. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to the game, announcing at least one more story expansion following Shattered Space. In an interview with the YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard expressed the studio's ambition to release annual story expansions for Starfield for the foreseeable future.

IGN’s review of Starfield awarded it a 7/10, praising its expansive role-playing quests and solid combat mechanics.

In January, Microsoft’s gaming chief, Phil Spencer, hinted at the possibility of Starfield coming to PS5. Reports from as early as March 2024 suggested that both Starfield and MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were under consideration for PS5. While Indiana Jones has since been confirmed for PS5 with a spring 2025 release, Starfield remains unconfirmed, though Spencer’s comments keep the hope alive.

Several Xbox titles have already made their way to PS5, including Sea of Thieves by Rare, Hi-Fi Rush by Tango Gameworks, and Grounded and Pentiment by Obsidian. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft on PlayStation and other platforms and plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Forza Horizon 5 from Playground Games is also set to arrive on PS5 soon. There are even whispers that Microsoft might finally bring Halo to PlayStation after years of exclusivity.

Spencer has articulated that Xbox’s multiplatform strategy is partly driven by the need to boost Microsoft’s gaming revenue, especially following the monumental $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the creators of Call of Duty.

“We run a business,” Spencer stated last August. “It’s definitely true inside of Microsoft the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company. Because we get a level of support from the company that’s just amazing and what we’re able to go do.

“So I look at this, how can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platform continues to grow, on console, on PC, and on cloud. It’s just going to be a strategy that works for us.”

Currently, the 450-person Bethesda Game Studios is juggling multiple projects across five teams: Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, mobile development, and external development partnerships.
