Ronald D. Moore Discusses Amazon's God of War TV Series: ‘The Tone of the Show Is Trying to Emulate the Tone of the Game’ | SDCC 2025

Author: Nora Jul 03,2026

Ronald D. Moore joined IGN’s live San Diego Comic-Con 2025 broadcast today, reflecting on his extensive career crafting some of the most iconic sci-fi and fantasy series over recent decades, including Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and For All Mankind. His next project is Amazon’s adaptation of God of War, where he serves as Executive Producer and showrunner.

Moore noted that while Kratos will headline the series, his son Atreus plays a significant role as well. Although not entirely unexpected, this marks the first official confirmation that the father-son dynamic remains central to Amazon’s take on God of War.

The theme of parent-child relationships—especially absent or deceased parents—has permeated Moore’s work since his debut episode for Star Trek: The Next Generation, “The Bonding,” which featured an orphaned child aboard the Enterprise following a away mission. He later contributed to Deep Space Nine, where Captain Sisko and his son Jake navigate life after their mother’s death. Battlestar Galactica also explores familial conflict, continuing into God of War, which opens with Kratos and Atreus preparing the funeral pyre for Kratos’ late wife in the 2018 game.
