Rust's highly anticipated Crafting Update has arrived, dramatically expanding the game's crafting and survival mechanics. A culinary workbench introduces a new layer of survival strategy, allowing players to grill chicken legs and even enjoy them with Siberian vodka! Recipes are required for successful cooking, and the resulting meals offer valuable stat boosts and gameplay modifiers.

Domesticating chickens has also been added; players can now build coops to house chickens and chicks. Each chick boasts four crucial needs: Hunger, Thirst, Love, and Sunlight. Neglecting these needs will lead to their demise, highlighting the importance of responsible animal husbandry in Rust. Chicken meat, however, is perishable and requires refrigeration to prevent spoilage. Food items now feature clear expiration timers.

Adding a touch of sweetness to the survival experience, wild beehives now appear in trees. Players can harvest honeycombs, but must carefully relocate them to player-built hives crafted from wooden boxes. Harvesting honey is not without its risks; players must protect themselves from angry bees using protective suits, water, or flamethrowers. A new weapon, the Bee Grenade (a jar of honey, naturally), unleashes swarms of aggressive bees, creating chaotic encounters.

The engineering workbench has undergone a complete overhaul, introducing separate tech trees for plumbing and electricity. This allows for the construction of sophisticated automated systems and even entire factories. Finally, to combat cheating and improve the overall player experience, premium servers have been implemented. Access to these servers is restricted to players with a Rust inventory valued at a minimum of $15.
