Sony Pulled GTA 6 Parody Game Grand Taking Ages From the PlayStation Store — but It’s Now Cleared for Release on Steam

The creators of the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody, Grand Taking Ages, have successfully launched the game on Steam after its removal from the PlayStation Store. Initially released on PlayStation with AI-generated assets and a May 2025 release date, Sony swiftly removed the game.

Grand Taking Ages, a management simulator parodying the long-awaited GTA 6, underwent significant revisions to secure Steam approval. These changes included removing the "VI" from the title, redesigning the logo, and updating descriptions and visuals to better distinguish it from Rockstar's GTA franchise. While the game still utilizes AI for voiceovers (as disclosed per Steam's AI guidelines), the updated trailer and screenshots on the Steam page emphasize its parody nature.

Grand Taking Ages is now available on Steam.

The Steam page features a new description: "Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of 'creative' deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!"

The developer, Violarte, adopted a proactive approach with Valve, engaging them on the game's concept before submission. This contrasted with their previous strategy with Sony. Violarte cited other projects like "Grand Theft Hamlet" as examples of successful GTA parodies, arguing that such works should be protected from takedowns.

The game's trailer utilizes AI-generated voiceovers.

Despite Steam's approval, Violarte aims to reinstate Grand Taking Ages on the PlayStation Store, believing the implemented changes address Sony's concerns. They've submitted a request highlighting Steam's acceptance as evidence of the game's revised compliance.

The incident highlights the differing approaches of Sony and Valve towards content curation. While Sony's process faced scrutiny, Steam's more open policy is well-established, resulting in a wider range of games, including those utilizing AI-generated assets. Meanwhile, the official release of GTA 6 is slated for Fall 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
