Sony's Secret Los Angeles Studio: A New AAA IP in the Works
Sony Interactive Entertainment has quietly established a new, unannounced AAA game studio in Los Angeles, California. This marks their 20th first-party studio and fuels excitement within the gaming community. The studio's current project is a high-profile, original AAA title destined for the PlayStation 5.
The news emerged via a recent job listing for a Project Senior Producer, explicitly mentioning the newly formed AAA studio. While details remain scarce, speculation points to two potential origins for this team.
One possibility involves a spin-off team from Bungie. Following layoffs in July 2024, 155 Bungie employees transitioned to Sony Interactive Entertainment, potentially forming the core of this new studio. This could be linked to Bungie's previously announced "Gummybears" incubation project.
Another strong contender is the team led by Jason Blundell, a veteran Call of Duty developer and former co-founder of Deviation Games. Deviation Games, which was developing a AAA PS5 title, unfortunately closed in March 2024. However, many former Deviation Games employees subsequently joined PlayStation, seemingly under Blundell's leadership. Given the timeline, this team is a more likely candidate for the new Los Angeles studio. Their project might be a continuation or a reimagining of Deviation Games' uncompleted title.
Regardless of its origins, the existence of this new PlayStation studio confirms another exciting first-party game in development. While an official announcement from Sony is likely still some time away, the news is enough to generate considerable anticipation among PlayStation fans.
