The announcement of the development of Space Marine 3 sent ripples of excitement and concern throughout the Warhammer 40,000 community. Just six months after the release of Space Marine 2, publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive made the surprising reveal in mid-March, sparking worries about the ongoing support for its predecessor.

In response to these concerns, both companies issued a reassuring blog post. They emphasized their commitment to Space Marine 2, stating that the development of the sequel does not signal the end of support for the current game. "So let us set the record straight: Space Marine 3 does not mean the end of Space Marine 2's development. Far from it. No teams are shifting over, no one is abandoning the game, and our plans to bring more awesome content to Space Marine 2 remain," the statement clarified.

The roadmap for Space Marine 2 remains intact, with Patch 7 slated for a mid-April release. Looking ahead, players can anticipate exciting additions such as a new class, new PvE operations, and new melee weapons. The blog post teased, "Trust us, there are surprises even dataminers haven’t found out about :)."

The announcement of Space Marine 3 is seen as the beginning of a new chapter, with the project still years away from completion. The developers expressed gratitude for the community's enthusiasm, which fuels their motivation. "Many of you were very excited for this project and this makes us incredibly happy and motivated. Thank you for the unwavering support," they stated, reaffirming their dedication to Space Marine 2.

The big news from the announcement is the introduction of a new class to Space Marine 2, with speculation leaning towards the Apothecary, akin to a medic class, or the powerful Librarian with warp-powered abilities. Additionally, fans are eager to see new melee weapons, with particular interest in the iconic axe from Secret Level's Warhammer 40,000 animated episode, which has already been modded into the game by enthusiastic players.

The decision to greenlight Space Marine 3 aligns with the strong performance of Space Marine 2. In an interview with IGN following the launch of Space Marine 2, Saber Interactive's Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, hinted at the potential for story DLC and shared that ideas for Space Marine 3 were already in motion. Willits mentioned, "Our game director Dmitry Grigorenko, he has proposed some story ideas that could either be DLC or a sequel." He also teased the possibility of exploring different factions and chapters in the sequel.

The future looks bright for fans of the Space Marine series, with continued support for Space Marine 2 and the exciting prospects of Space Marine 3 on the horizon.
