Work on Steam FPS Game Paused Because Dev is Going to Prison for 3 Years

The Steam FPS game, Fortune's Run, faces an indefinite delay due to its sole developer, Dizzie, receiving a three-year prison sentence. This unique circumstance, unlike typical delays stemming from financial or technical issues, leaves the game in early access limbo.

Prior to this news, Fortune's Run enjoyed positive reception on Steam, praised for its nostalgic art style and engaging gameplay. However, all further development is now on hold until Dizzie's release. While the game's Steam page targets a 2026 release from early access, this is highly unlikely given the circumstances. The precedent of other games, such as Satisfactory, spending years in early access suggests that a prolonged delay for Fortune's Run is a realistic possibility.

Dizzie revealed the prison sentence in a January 14th Steam update, stating the crime predated the game's development and occurred during a period of their life characterized by violence. While the specific crime remains undisclosed, this situation highlights an unusual cause for game development delays within the industry. The developer assures fans that the game's completion is still the goal upon their release from prison. Until then, the current early access build remains playable, and players can explore other excellent early access shooters available on Steam. The original team member is no longer involved, having left the project following a medical issue and subsequent disinterest in game development. Dizzie's imprisonment begins in February 2025.
