Suikoden's latest venture into mobile gaming, Suikoden STAR LEAP, aims to deliver a gaming experience akin to that of a console. In a recent interview with Famitsu on March 4, 2025, the developers behind Star Leap shared their vision for the game.

Star Leap's Producer, Shinya Fujimatsu, explained the choice of mobile as the platform, stating, "Our goal was to make Suikoden accessible to as many players as possible. Mobile gaming is the most convenient way to reach a broad audience. Yet, we wanted to ensure that Star Leap retains the true essence of Suikoden, making it a significant addition to the series."

The team is committed to blending the high-quality visuals, sounds, and storytelling of console games with the accessibility of mobile platforms, ensuring a rich gaming experience on the go.

Expressing Suikoden in STAR LEAP

Fujimatsu emphasized that Suikoden's distinctiveness lies in its portrayal of war themes intertwined with deep themes of friendship. He noted, "In Suikoden STAR LEAP, it's crucial to tell the story of the new 108 stars, staying true to the Suikoden spirit."

Director Yoshiki Meng Shan added to this, highlighting the series' unique blend of an upbeat atmosphere with serious scenes and the cooperative nature of its battle system. He remarked, "Suikoden's battles are unique because they involve many characters working together, adding depth to the gameplay."

Both a Sequel and a Prequel to the Series

Star Leap is designed to serve as both a sequel and a prequel, weaving through different eras within the Suikoden universe. Set to be a new installment in the series' official timeline, the game's narrative begins two years before the events of Suikoden 1 and spans across various periods, enriching the series' lore.

Encouraging fans to anticipate the game's quality, Fujimatsu stated, "Even newcomers to the series can easily dive into Suikoden STAR LEAP thanks to its mobile-friendly design and accessible storytelling. We hope it serves as a welcoming entry point into the 'Suikoden Genso' saga."
