Could Clash of Clans, or another major Supercell property, be coming to the big screen? It's more likely than you might think, as the Finnish mobile developer has begun the search for a senior film and TV development executive. This move hints at Supercell following in the footsteps of fellow Finnish developer Rovio, which successfully brought Angry Birds to the movies back in 2016.
However, according to our sister site PocketGamer.biz, the job description doesn't suggest an immediate rush into film production. Instead, it emphasizes building a comprehensive strategy for live-action and animated films, as well as planning for both theatrical and streaming distribution. In simpler terms, this role appears to be more about strategic planning and preparation for potential future projects rather than jumping straight into production.
Although it's a "watch-and-wait" position, it's safe to speculate that Supercell might already be sketching out preliminary ideas for how they could adapt their properties into movies or animations. Given Supercell's recent ventures into crossovers and collaborations, such as their partnership with WWE, expanding into film and TV seems like a logical next step.
It's worth noting that the hugely successful Angry Birds movie came out seven years after the game's initial release. Despite the passage of time since Clash of Clans was launched, it still boasts a robust audience. Additionally, Supercell has newer IPs like Mo.co, which could be tailored into more kid-friendly films.
We'll have to keep an eye on how this unfolds. In the meantime, if you're looking for something to pass the time, check out our list of the top five new mobile games to try this week.
