Ubisoft's Latest NFT Venture: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E

Ubisoft Discreetly Releases A New NFT Game

Ubisoft quietly unveiled Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E on December 20, as reported by Eurogamer. This top-down multiplayer arcade shooter marks Ubisoft's latest foray into NFT gaming, requiring players to use cryptocurrency to participate.

According to Eden Online’s website, the game expands the universe established by "Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix," a series available on Netflix. Both the game and the series integrate popular Ubisoft IPs such as Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed, creating a rich, interconnected narrative.

The game features a classic online competitive multiplayer environment, but access is limited to just 10,000 players. To play, each participant must acquire a Citizen ID Card, which tracks various in-game achievements, from seasonal rankings to unique accolades. These cards dynamically evolve based on the player's performance within the game.

To secure a Citizen ID Card, players need a crypto wallet and must purchase an NFT Niji Warrior ID card from Ubisoft’s dedicated claim page for $25.63. Owners of these IDs can also choose to renounce their citizenship and sell their IDs to others, potentially increasing in value based on their in-game achievements.

According to Ubisoft's page on Magic Eden, an online marketplace for NFTs and digital collectibles, the full launch of the game is slated for Q1 2025. However, early adopters who obtain IDs now will gain early access to the game.

Inspired by Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC: The Netflix Series

Ubisoft Discreetly Releases A New NFT Game

The Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, is an animated spinoff from the standalone expansion of Far Cry 3, known as Blood Dragon. Set in an alternate 1992, the series portrays the United States as Eden, a technocracy ruled by a megacorporation.

The storyline follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier engineered by Eden Tech Military. After defecting, he teams up with his boyfriend Alex Taylor to conduct heists, only to be betrayed and recaptured by Eden. Forced back into service, Dolph joins The Ghosts, tasked with thwarting Taylor's schemes.

While Ubisoft has kept the game's storyline under wraps, it is set within the same universe, where players assume the roles of citizens under Eden's regime. Players can influence the game's narrative by boosting their citizen scores through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community engagement.
