Neutronized's Shadow Trick: A Charming Retro Platformer

Neutronized, the studio behind this year's Shovel Pirate and other titles like Slime Labs 3, Super Cat Tales, and Yokai Dungeon: Monster Games, has released a new free-to-play platformer: Shadow Trick. True to Neutronized's style, it's a short, fun, and charming game with a simple, yet engaging, gameplay loop. The 16-bit pixel art style gives it a distinct retro feel.

Gameplay: Shadow Manipulation

In Shadow Trick, players control a wizard capable of transforming into a shadow. This core mechanic is used to solve puzzles, navigate treacherous environments, and evade enemies. Switching between physical and shadow forms is key to uncovering secrets and overcoming obstacles.

The game features 24 levels set within a magical castle, each boasting diverse biomes, hidden dangers, and challenging boss encounters. Hidden within each level are three moon crystals; collecting all 72 crystals is required to experience the complete game ending. Defeating bosses without taking damage adds an extra layer of difficulty, as some bosses employ deceptive tactics, such as the red ghost's disappearing act.

Diverse Environments and Challenges

Shadow Trick offers a variety of environments, including aquatic levels where players must navigate as shadows, encountering unique and quirky fish bosses.

Worth a Look?

With its appealing retro pixel art visuals, impressive environments, and catchy chiptune soundtrack, Shadow Trick is a delightful experience. If you enjoy retro-styled platformers, this free game is definitely worth checking out on the Google Play Store.
