According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion was set to be released this year in conjunction with a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came after concerns that the content volume did not justify the intended price, as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the report.
This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier in the year, the company made significant moves by canceling a planned Wonder Woman game and shutting down the studio responsible for it, Monolith Productions. Additionally, WB San Diego and the MultiVersus developer, Player First Games, were also closed. In a further sign of cost-cutting measures, Warner Bros. laid off employees at Rocksteady just last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities," reflecting a strategic focus on developing fewer but more significant franchises. The original game has achieved impressive sales, surpassing 30 million copies sold.
