MH Wilds Beta Test Extension Considered After Sudden PSN Outage

Monster Hunter Wilds is exploring a 24-hour extension for Open Beta Test 2 following a significant PlayStation Network outage. This article details the potential extension and the weekend's events.

24-Hour PS5 Gameplay Interruption

Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is considering a one-day extension to Open Beta Test 2 due to the PlayStation Network's 24-hour downtime starting February 7th at 6 PM EST. This outage rendered all online console games unplayable, impacting the MH Wilds beta. Service was restored around 8 PM EST, according to the official NA X (Twitter) support account.

While the exact timing of the potential 24-hour extension hasn't been announced, it's intended to compensate for lost playtime. The extension could occur anytime between the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2 and February 27th. Part 1 of Beta Test 2 concluded, and Part 2 begins February 13th at 7 PM PT. Players can resume gameplay and potentially encounter the amusing low-poly character bug.

The Hilarious Low-Poly Bug Returns

Capcom acknowledges the beta build's outdated nature and presence of bugs, including the infamous low-poly character glitch. This glitch, caused by texture loading issues, transforms characters, Palicos, and monsters into blocky versions of their usual selves.

Instead of frustration, this bug has been met with amusement, with fans sharing their low-poly experiences on social media. Some even hope the game will acknowledge this quirky glitch in the future. MH Wilds developers are aware and appreciate the humorous response, while recommending players experience the game's full visual fidelity upon its official release.

Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest in the series, introduces an open-world setting, the Forbidden Lands. Players investigate this region and its apex predator, the White Wraith. The action-RPG launches on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 28th, 2025.

A Major PlayStation Network Outage

PlayStation attributed the outage to an "operational issue" and apologized for the inconvenience. PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive five extra days of service as compensation.

However, the lack of communication during the outage drew criticism, mirroring concerns from a 2011 incident. The 2011 PSN outage, caused by a hacker attack, resulted in a three-and-a-half-week service disruption and 77 million compromised accounts. In contrast to the recent event, Sony provided regular updates during the 2011 outage.
