Organized religion can sometimes evoke a sense of unease, as evidenced by horror movies like those featuring a terrifying nun. However, Blasphemous by The Game Kitchen takes this eerie atmosphere to new heights with its gothic ambiance, intense side-scrolling combat, and challenging gameplay. Now available on Android, this hardcore 2D platformer is inspired by religious themes and Spanish folklore.

In Blasphemous, you take on the role of The Penitent One, an armored warrior tasked with liberating the island of Cvstodia from a sinister curse called The Miracle. You'll battle through hordes of monsters and grotesque beings, all while striving to break the curse and enduring multiple deaths along the way.

The mobile version of Blasphemous comes with a fully redesigned user interface and intuitive controls optimized for mobile devices. For those who prefer more traditional controls, the game supports Bluetooth gamepads, enhancing the platforming experience. Additionally, the Android release includes all previously released DLCs, providing a comprehensive gaming experience right out of the box.

Blasphemous GameplayIf you're an iOS user, you'll have to wait until late February 2025 to get your hands on Blasphemous. But given the acclaim from both players and critics, the wait is likely to be worth it.

Personally, I've found mobile platformers to be a mixed bag, particularly when it comes to precision due to touchscreen controls. My experience with classics like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on mobile was less than ideal.
