Square Enix recently unveiled the next evolution of the Dragon Quest franchise, with Dragon Quest Smash/Grow coming to iOS and Android in 2026. Today, we're getting our first glimpse of this roguelite RPG through a fresh teaser trailer and details about the initial closed beta test, scheduled to begin this October.
Breaking from the series' traditional turn-based roots, Dragon Quest Smash/Grow features fast-paced roguelite action centered on momentum. You'll cut through waves of monsters, growing stronger as you progress, and conclude battles with spectacular Coup de Grâce moves that longtime fans will immediately recognize.
In the meantime, explore our selection of the top RPGs available for Android!
Each gameplay run is kept fresh and unpredictable by the Blessings system, which grants you randomized abilities such as health regeneration and attack boosts, letting you adapt your tactics on the fly. As with any quality roguelite, no two playthroughs will ever feel alike.

This isn't Dragon Quest's first foray into mobile RPGs, but it represents a fresh start. Following the recent shutdown of Dragon Quest of the Stars, there's been a void for a premium mobile experience. Smash/Grow appears ready to fill that role, merging the dynamic tempo of a roguelite with all the charm and grandeur of the core series.
Alongside the CBT registration, a launch giveaway is underway on the game's official Facebook and X pages. To participate, simply follow the account and reshare the campaign post or leave a comment. Selected winners will receive prizes like the Metallic Monsters Gallery Erdrick Sword & Shield and the ever-popular Smile Slime plush.
The Dragon Quest Smash/Grow closed beta test runs from October 14th to 21st. Pre-registration is currently open and will close on October 2nd. iOS users can sign up via TestFlight, while Android players can register through the Google Play store. For additional details, visit the official website.
