New First-Party PlayStation Game Will Reportedly Be Inspired by Smash Bros

A PlayStation studio, newly formed from former Bungie employees, is reportedly developing a MOBA titled "Gummy Bears." Initially conceived at Bungie, this project, codenamed "Gummy Bears," has undergone a developer shift and is now under the banner of a new Sony subsidiary.

This MOBA, rumored to be in development since at least 2020, is said to feature a unique gameplay mechanic. Instead of traditional health bars, it will utilize a percentage-based damage system akin to the Super Smash Bros. franchise, resulting in knockback and potential map elimination based on damage accumulation.

The game is expected to target a younger audience than Bungie's previous titles. Its aesthetic is described as "cozy, vibrant, and lo-fi," a departure from Bungie's established style. Standard MOBA character classes (Attack, Defense, Support) and multiple game modes are also anticipated. While the release date remains uncertain, the project is likely years from completion.

The transition of Gummy Bears to the new PlayStation studio aligns with Sony's recent establishment of a Los Angeles-based development team, suggesting this is the studio overseeing the project's continued development. The game's unique mechanics and targeted demographic represent a significant shift from Bungie's previous work.
