Forza Horizon 4 Sunset on December 15

Forza Horizon 4's digital sunset is approaching. Microsoft has announced the game will be removed from digital storefronts like the Microsoft Store, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass on December 15, 2024. This means no new purchases of the game or its DLC will be possible after that date. The popular open-world racing title, launched in 2018 and boasting over 24 million players (as of November 2020), will be retired due to expiring licensing agreements.

While previously stating no plans to delist the game, Playground Games confirmed the news on the Forza.net blog. The delisting affects all digital sales channels. Interestingly, DLC purchases will cease even earlier, on June 25th, limiting future purchases to the standard, deluxe, and ultimate editions until the December deadline.

Forza Horizon 4's final in-game series, Series 77, runs from July 25th to August 22nd. Post-Series 77, the playlist screen will be unavailable, but daily and weekly challenges and Forzathon Live events will remain accessible via the Forza Events screen. Existing owners—both digital and physical—can continue playing. Game Pass subscribers with active subscriptions and purchased DLC will receive a game token to ensure continued access.

The delisting, while regrettable for fans, is unfortunately common in the racing genre due to the limited lifespan of music and car licensing agreements. This mirrors the fate of previous Forza Horizon titles. However, players can still snag the game at a significant discount: an 80% Steam sale is currently underway, with an Xbox Store sale planned for August 14th.
