Hot on the heels of Microsoft’s subtle mention of Hollow Knight: Silksong in an official Xbox post, recent backend updates to the game’s Steam listing have reignited excitement among fans, suggesting a possible re-reveal—and even a release—could be just around the corner.

As widely noted across social media, Reddit threads, Discord servers, and other online communities, the Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam page was quietly updated on March 24. According to data tracked on SteamDB, the changes include enabling the game for opt-in on GeForce Now, Nvidia’s cloud gaming service, updated store assets, and a significant update to the Steam legal text: the copyright year now reads Team Cherry 2025, replacing the previous 2019 date.

These behind-the-scenes tweaks strongly hint at imminent news surrounding Silksong. With the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, speculation is mounting that the sequel could make its return during the presentation—possibly even launching as a timed console exclusive on the next-gen Switch.

It’s been six years since Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced. Since then, Team Cherry has offered only occasional glimpses into development, punctuated by long stretches of silence. However, January 2025 marked a turning point for the game’s passionate fanbase, when cryptic activity on X/Twitter from a Team Cherry developer sparked widespread rumors of a potential re-announcement during the Switch 2 Direct.

When originally revealed, Team Cherry confirmed Silksong would launch on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. The game is also set to arrive on Xbox Game Pass at launch, following Microsoft’s publishing partnership with Team Cherry—making it one of the most anticipated day-one additions to the subscription service.

Back in June 2022, Microsoft featured Hollow Knight: Silksong during its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, stating that all showcased titles would be playable within the following 12 months. At the time, this led many to believe the game would launch by mid-2023. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry officially announced a delay beyond the first half of that year, citing the game’s growing scope.

Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry’s marketing and publishing lead, explained: “We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.”

As the long-awaited sequel to the 2017 critically acclaimed Hollow Knight, expectations for Silksong are sky-high. The original title earned universal praise for its intricate world design, deep lore, and challenging gameplay. In IGN’s original review, we said: "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight."

With momentum building and key indicators pointing toward 2025, fans may finally be on the verge of returning to Hallownest. [ttpp]
