Acquiring certain crafting materials in NieR: Automata proves significantly more challenging than others. While not visually indicated, some resources are exceptionally rare, with Pristine Screws being a prime example.

Although purchasable from Emil, his inventory fluctuates, making direct acquisition from machines a potentially faster and cheaper alternative. Here are two farming strategies:

Where To Find Pristine Screws in NieR: Automata

Goliath-Bipeds, the largest non-boss machines, drop screws, including the rare Pristine Screw. Higher-level Goliath-Bipeds yield a higher drop rate; early-game acquisition is practically impossible.

Several locations reliably spawn Goliath-Bipeds. The pit where you first encounter Adam (also a good spot for Machine Arms) is one such location. However, the Goliath-Bipeds here are around level 30, resulting in a lower Pristine Screw drop rate. The advantage is their constant respawning, allowing for rapid farming despite the lower odds.

Alternatively, during a third playthrough, fast travel to the Forest Castle: Front access point. Two level 49 Goliath-Bipeds guard the entrance, offering a better drop chance. However, these do not respawn; you'll need to repeatedly fast travel to a distant location and return.

Both methods benefit from using a drop-rate enhancing plug-in chip.

The optimal method depends on two key factors:

Farming Pristine Screws is inherently time-consuming. The Forest method, while offering a higher drop rate, involves frequent loading screens, minimizing actual gameplay. If load times are insignificant, this is the preferable option. Conversely, the pit method provides continuous gameplay, allowing simultaneous farming of other materials and XP accumulation. Choose this if uninterrupted playtime is prioritized.
