Hideki Kamiya, renowned game director behind classics like Okami and Devil May Cry, embarks on a new chapter. After a two-decade tenure at PlatinumGames, he's launched Clovers Inc., a new studio dedicated to fulfilling his long-held dream: an Okami sequel.
A Legacy Continued
Kamiya's passion for completing the Okami narrative is well-documented. He openly expressed his desire for a sequel, even playfully recounting his unsuccessful attempts to convince Capcom. Now, with Clovers Inc. and Capcom's publishing support, this ambition is finally realized.
Clovers Inc.: A New Beginning
Clovers Inc., a joint venture with former PlatinumGames colleague Kento Koyama, pays homage to Clover Studio, the birthplace of Okami and Viewtiful Joe. Kamiya emphasizes a shared creative vision, prioritizing passion and a strong creative core over sheer size. The studio, currently boasting 25 employees across Tokyo and Osaka, plans for measured growth.
Departure from PlatinumGames
Kamiya's departure from PlatinumGames, where he served as creative leader and vice president, surprised many. He alludes to philosophical differences regarding game development as the catalyst for his decision, highlighting the importance of aligning with a shared creative vision.
A Softer Side
Kamiya's known for his sometimes blunt online persona. However, he recently showed a more empathetic side, publicly apologizing to a fan he'd previously offended, demonstrating a shift in his online interactions. He's been engaging more positively with fans, acknowledging their enthusiasm for the Okami sequel announcement.
