Peacemaker Season 2 Release Date and New Footage Revealed

DC Studios head James Gunn has officially announced that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Accompanying this announcement, Gunn shared a brief teaser showcasing new footage, featuring John Cena's character, Peacemaker, in action. In one scene, Cena smirks at the camera with a fire blazing in the background, and a voice declares him "a superhero now."

In a recent tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating that the premiere is "one of my favorite things ever." The anticipation builds as fans count down to what Gunn refers to as "Peace on Earth."

Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of the Superman movie, set to release on July 11, marking the official start of Gunn's rebooted DCU. This series will be the third installment in the new DCU, coming after the Creature Commandos TV series from last year and the upcoming Superman film.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran's new DCU aims to distance itself from the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, certain elements from the DCEU will persist into the new universe. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, having started in the DCEU with its first season and continuing into the new DCU with its second.

Gunn has emphasized that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will carry over from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return, with the same actors reprising their roles. This includes John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Furthermore, Gunn has clarified that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting the storyline of Peacemaker.
