Following the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, it's clear that the partnership between Nintendo and Xbox is set to continue and flourish. Microsoft's head of gaming, Phil Spencer, recently reiterated his commitment to the Switch platform as a vital avenue to reach gamers who are not part of the Xbox ecosystem.

In a recent interview with Variety, Spencer was asked about specific projects planned for the Nintendo Switch 2. He emphasized that just as Xbox has supported the original Switch, the company is eager to extend that support to the Switch 2.

"Nintendo has been a great partner. We think it is a unique way for us to reach players who aren’t PC players, who aren’t players on Xbox," Spencer explained. "It lets us continue to grow our community of people that care about the franchises that we have, and that’s really important for us to make sure we continue to invest in our games."

Play"I’m really a big believer in what Nintendo means for this industry and us continuing to support them," Spencer added. "And getting the support from them for our franchises, I think, is an important part of our future."

Spencer has long been a vocal advocate for the Nintendo Switch 2, praising Nintendo's innovative approach when the console was first teased. He also confirmed that Xbox would continue to expand its game distribution across various platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo consoles.

When asked by Variety if the Switch 2 reveal made him eager to unveil Xbox's next console plans, Spencer remained focused on the company's current strategy.

"No. I think all of us in this industry should focus on our communities and the player base that we’re building," Spencer stated. "I get inspired by what a lot of different creators do and other platform holders. But I believe in the plans that we have."

The Xbox head reaffirmed the company's commitment to delivering games across multiple platforms, including cloud, PC, and consoles. Games like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already been ported to Nintendo platforms, and it will be exciting to see what Xbox brings to the Switch 2 upon its official release.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is slated to debut on June 5, 2025. While pre-orders have not yet started, keep an eye on our Switch 2 pre-order hub page for the latest updates on when they might become available.
